Each summer my family spends a week camping in the North Carolina mountains alongside a rocky mountain river. We spend hours knee-deep in the cool water, lifting rocks to uncover salamanders hiding beneath.
Chasing salamanders is a fun activity, and it is a metaphor for my approach to life.
Chasing salamanders requires that we:
- Live in the moment.
- Minimize distraction.
Chasing salamanders allows us to:
- Play outside.
- Connect with nature and be a part of it.
- Connect with each other.
- Have fun together.
Camping for a week focuses us on:
- What is essential in life.
- How much we usually live with that is not essential.
In this blog I will share how I try to chase salamanders at every day.
I love the use of “chasing salamanders” as a metaphor for living life to the fullest!
